Abdulaziz
11 yearsTashkent
Born prematurely, Abdulaziz could barely hear. After a cochlear implant he is a top pupil at a mainstream school, loves robotics and dreams of becoming an inventor.
Abdulaziz’s story shows how early diagnosis, a timely cochlear implant and a year of patient rehabilitation completely changed a child’s life and his family’s. Today his journey inspires dozens of parents facing the same choice.

Interests & achievements
Before & after
Because he was born prematurely, Abdulaziz had severe hearing loss (grade 3–4). By age three he did not respond to soft sounds and did not speak.
In February 2019 he received a cochlear implant, followed by a year of rehabilitation at the Invivo clinic. Today Abdulaziz is 11, in fifth grade at a mainstream school alongside his peers — he swims, learns English and builds robots.
Key milestones
- 2018
Diagnosis
Abdulaziz was diagnosed with severe bilateral hearing loss. Hearing aids did not deliver clear speech.
- February 2019
Implantation
At the Invivo clinic Abdulaziz received a Cochlear Nucleus implant. The surgery was a success.
- March 2019
Activation
The processor was switched on — and Abdulaziz responded to sound for the first time. An unforgettable moment for the family.
- 2019–2020
Rehabilitation
A year of work with the Invivo team: first the word “oyi”, then whole sentences and fluent speech.
- 2021
Mainstream school
Abdulaziz was accepted into a private school alongside hearing children — with the support of his parents and teachers.

5th grade and a dream
Top marks, robotics, swimming, English — and a dream of becoming an inventor.
Their journey
Abdulaziz was born prematurely, and it affected his hearing. By age three his parents noticed he did not react to soft sounds or begin to speak — he responded only to very loud noises.
Tests confirmed severe hearing loss (grade 3–4). At first there were doubts and fears: “What if something goes wrong?” But the doctors explained that early implantation gives the best outcome, and the family decided to go ahead.
In February 2019, at the Invivo clinic, Abdulaziz had cochlear implant surgery. A few weeks later the processor was activated — and he responded to sound for the first time. His mother recalls the moment as one of the happiest of her life.
Then came a year of rehabilitation at the Invivo centre, supervised by audiologist Nodira and Dr. Zebo’s team. Step by step, sounds and words emerged: first “oyi”, then single words, and finally whole sentences.
When school age came, a private school decided to admit Abdulaziz alongside hearing children — on the condition that the school, the psychologist and the parents would work together. The condition was met, and the boy quickly fitted in.
Today Abdulaziz is a top pupil in fifth grade, keeping pace with his peers. He loves robotics, swimming and English, builds robots himself and dreams of becoming an inventor.

What their teachers say
“Abdulaziz was an excellent candidate for implantation. The surgery went exactly as planned, and his progress after activation is among the best I have seen. His parents’ early decision was decisive.”
“For the first year we tuned the processor and worked together every week. Abdulaziz began telling sounds and words apart very quickly — the family did everything we recommended at home. It is teamwork.”
“We admitted Abdulaziz with some hesitation, but together with his parents and teachers he finished fourth grade with top marks and exemplary behaviour. We are proud of him and believe he will grow into a fine person.”
“A deep “culture of listening” helped Abdulaziz master even a private school’s demanding curriculum. He had no difficulty with his classmates or his studies.”
“Abdulaziz is one of the most active pupils in the class, with a broad mind. We really like the way he thinks.”
“In robotics class Abdulaziz amazes us with the robots he builds. We are sure a great future as an inventor awaits him.”
